Additive Assurance Named Top Performer in Actionable In‑Situ Awareness Challenge

Panama City, Florida · August 2025

Additive Assurance, a leader in quality assurance for metal additive manufacturing, is proud to announce it has been named the top performer in the Actionable In-Situ Awareness Challenge. The competition was hosted by The Applied Science & Technology Research Organization of America (ASTRO America), in collaboration with ASTM International's Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE) and Florida State University's Institute for Strategic Partnerships, Innovation, Research, & Education (InSPIRE).

The landmark challenge was created to identify and validate the most effective in-process monitoring and data analytics solutions for metal 3D printing, a critical step in advancing the reliability and adoption of the technology in key sectors like aerospace and defense. Additive Assurance was selected from a competitive field of five finalists who participated in live demonstrations in Panama City, Florida. Each company installed its sensor technologies on industrial-scale metal 3D printers to demonstrate its capabilities under real-world manufacturing conditions.

The finalists presented their findings to a distinguished panel of experts from organizations including the Air Force Research Laboratory, Boeing, GE Aerospace, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and RTX.

“We are honored to be recognized as the top performer in the Actionable In-Situ Awareness Challenge,” said Dr. David Menzies, Chief Commercial Officer at Additive Assurance. “This program gave us the opportunity to demonstrate the power of our AMiRIS® platform in real-world conditions and to show how advanced in-situ monitoring can deliver meaningful improvements in quality, confidence, and adoption of metal additive manufacturing.”

The competition directly addresses a persistent gap in the additive manufacturing industry, where quality control is often conducted only after a build is complete, leading to costly and time-consuming discoveries of defects. Additive Assurance’s AMiRIS® platform provides a comprehensive, in-process quality assurance solution that detects and flags defects in real-time, ensuring parts meet specification and reducing waste.

As a top performer, Additive Assurance will be presenting its technology at the ASTM International Conference on Advanced Manufacturing (ICAM) in Las Vegas this October.

Additive Industries and Additive Assurance Partner to Enhance L-PBF Monitoring

Melbourne, Australia & Eindhoven, Netherlands · 21 August 2024

Additive Industries and Additive Assurance partner up to cooperate on providing in situ process monitoring with Additive Industries’ MetalFab portfolio of laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) machines. This collaboration will leverage the complementary strengths of both companies to improve the process monitoring of additively manufactured parts in high performance applications.

Additive Industries is one of the major manufacturers of metal L-PBF machines globally and has been serving production oriented customers for over a decade. Additive Industries’ MetalFab printers offer class leading automation, scalability and capability. Their product portfolio has recently been updated with their newest machine; the MetalFab 300 Flex.

As AM printers increase build rates and productivity, the requirement for in-process monitoring and quality assurance is becoming essential in many industries to ensure repeatability and generate high production yields. Additive Industries has identified the market gap and is leading the charge with offering this extended capability to their customers.

Additive Assurance's AMiRIS® offers the ability to inspect quality during production. This can accelerate the quality validation process and ultimately lead to higher yield and production consistency of L-PBF manufactured parts. AMiRIS® is a logical extension to the MetalFab series, addressing the QA challenge with state-of-the-art in situ monitoring, enabling manufacturers to detect and address quality problems during production.

“Our partnership with Additive Assurance aligns perfectly with our commitment to advancing the capabilities of metal additive manufacturing…,” said Mark Massey, CEO at Additive Industries. “We are delighted to be working with Additive Industries to add value to their customers’ experience and to push the boundaries of what is possible with L-PBF AM,” added Marten Jurg, CEO of Additive Assurance.
